Charlie Countryman
When thinking of traveling abroad, one can conjure up both the good and the bad. This movie covers both ends of that spectrum, where in it, our main character Charlie (Shia LaBeouf) witnesses death, falls in love, gets arrested, does acid, all while being actively hunted by a Romanian gangster, Nigel (Mads Mikaelsson). After the death of his mother, Charlie receives a message from the ghost of his mother telling him to go to Bucharest, Romania. Having no better prospects at home, and desperate for some meaning, Charlie embarks on the journey that will have him come up against obstacle after obstacle, and along the way find his purpose, and find his destiny in the love of Gabi (Evan Rachel Wood).
This movie dips its toe in each area, it has it’s dramatic moments, tension, thrill, panic, ectasy (quite literally), comedy, action, and romance. Taking aim to never dive too deeply into either one, it has you floating along and in an odd twist of expectation, might have you longing for a trip to Bucharest. If you’re a fan of Shia LaBeouf, you’ll enjoy this movie. And if you’re a fan traveling to obscure places and meeting unusual people, this movie will be for you.
